ENG/ Mondocultures is glad to invite: 6th Echoes of Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival in Brussels
At the beginning of March 2018, Ji.hlava IDFF will come to Brussels for the sixth time to present the Echoes of the 21st Ji.hlava IDFF, a representative showcase of documentary films screened at the past year’s festival including a selection of winning films.
The Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival is one of the key European documentary film festivals and the largest one in Central and Eastern Europe. The Ji.hlava IDFF is unique for its careful programme selection discovering new tendencies in world cinema. It showcases authorial artistic works with significant themes, innovative style and visual form.
"The Programme of the Echoes of Ji.hlava IDFF offers a focused insight into the latest trends of contemporary non-fiction cinema. We have carefully selected 10 out of the 331 titles presented during the 21st Ji.hlava IDFF for our showcase as we believe that they very aptly illustrate the variety and impact of documentary cinema. These titles represent distinctive figures from among the up-and-coming filmmaking generation who often pose very similar questions in Turkey, Poland, Lebanon, Czech Republic and Syria, being at the same time able to provide unique and brave answers." Marek Hovorka, festival director
This Sunday, we will have the opportunity to watch: On The Edge Of Freedom, Jens Lengerke, Anita Mathal Hopland, Denmark, 2017, 75 min, Audio: Russian/Ukrainian Subtitles: English.
Synopsis: Moscow and Kyiv. Angela and Vlad. Two young and talented people brought together by an unusual passion for the extravagant and public conquest of forbidden parts of the city. Tall buildings, underground tunnels or freight trains are the new pastimes of a young generation yearning to get out of the rut, escape a predictable future and find fame among their peers through risky “urbex” videos. At the same time, however, the logic of social networks is turning them into a commercial phenomenon that can bring them big money – but also compel them to engage in even crazier stunts. “This is urban exploration, baby!”
“This is a portrait of a new generation we rarely hear about. It is a film about the human behind an extreme phenomenon.” A. M. Hopland.
Screening in presence of director Anita Mathal Hopland, a Q&A session will take place after the film.
